SPRING TERM 2025

This term, Dosbarth Rhossili will be delving into the topic of 'Peace, Conflict, and Security', specifically looking into the enquiry question of ‘Conflict Today, Peace Tomorrow?’ This engaging theme is designed to deepen our understanding of these important global issues and inspire them to think critically about the world around them; both in the past and present.

Our literacy activities will revolve around two captivating books: 'The Valley of Lost Secrets' by Lesley Parr and 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll. These novels provide a rich backdrop for exploring themes of war, peace, and resilience, as children embark on a literary journey through historical contexts and characters' experiences.To further enrich our learning experience, we will have daily Welsh lessons to continue developing our language skills, fostering a deeper connection to our heritage

In Mathematics and Numeracy, students will delve into fractions, decimals, and percentages, using statistics related to our theme to make real-world connections. By comparing and analysing data on peace and conflict, they will enhance their numerical skills and develop a more profound understanding of how mathematics helps us interpret the world.

Our artistics skills will be developed by celebrating the work of Welsh artist Ruth Jên, in preparation for our school Eisteddfod. We will explore traditional Welsh lady costumes and bring them to life using watercolours and pastels. This artistic exploration will connect them to their cultural heritage while encouraging creativity and self-expression.

In Science and Technology, we will explore the fascinating world of forces and programming. Students will investigate how forces work and apply this knowledge to programme drones to follow a route on a map, simulating contemporary war efforts. This hands-on approach will enhance their understanding of scientific principles and the role of technology in modern conflicts.

We look forward to a meaningful and enriching term as we explore 'Conflict Today, Peace Tomorrow?' through diverse and engaging activities. Join us on this exciting educational journey!
