NURSERY

SPRING TERM 2025

In the first part of our Nursery Spring term, we have started exploring the enquiry question, "How can we feel safe, be kind to others, and solve problems together?"  We began with an exciting ‘Stunning Start” where the children dressed up as someone who helps them in the community, which was a fantastic way to kick start our topic. Each week, we will be inviting real-life superheroes to visit our school, sharing details about their jobs and how they support us. So far, we have had the opportunity to meet a police officer and a nurse. After these visits, the children will create job profiles based on the information these community heroes have shared. Additionally, we are also planning to interview and meet with some of the very important people in our school who help us and keep us safe every day.

Each week, we will explore a "Rhyme of the Week," where we will sing and engage in activities that bring familiar nursery rhymes to life, including role play. We will introduce a new phonics sound each week, deepening our understanding through activities like sorting objects by their initial sounds and practicing oral blending. Our math skills will grow through fun, hands-on TAPAS sessions, where we will develop a strong foundation in number recognition. We will create representations of the numbers 1, 2, and 3 using loose parts, and practice subitising by recognising different dot patterns. Additionally, we will explore the concepts of "one more" and "one less," building a strong number sense through play.

We will also be exploring New Year traditions from around the world, and we are especially excited to celebrate Chinese New Year! We will learn about the fascinating story of the Great Race, practice a dragon dance, and create a dragon head using recycled materials for our very own dragon parade. To top it off, we will enjoy a traditional Chinese buffet, trying new foods and celebrating the occasion together.

This term will culminate in an Eisteddfod celebration. Leading up to this, the children will learn new Welsh songs to perform, and they will also create observational paintings of daffodils, which will be entered into the competition.

We are excited to create many wonderful memories with your children.
